Another point tonight in a game of football where again we showed we can mix it with European top clubs , a 2-0 lead surrendered at home ,was however disappointing and like the first game against Ajax in Holland we were in the lead and controlling the game , 2-2 against Fenerbahce will be seen as a good result though with their big money buys Nani, Van Persie , Diego all playing , Celtic took the lead with a smartly taken goal by our top striker lee Griffiths hitting the first shot at the back stick the goalie parried but the sharp forward smashed the ball home to make it 1-0 then soon after Kris commons scored a wonderful goal from a Forrest cut back to make it 2-0 the Celtic fans could hardly believe it,the team were playing well and were creating good chances.
So when Fenerbahce pulled a goal back before half time after a Ambrose mistake there was a deflated feeling in the stands ,up until that point Ambrose had been playing very well, and it seems the player is plagued with these kinds of instances ,one-off mistakes in games from otherwise decent and sometimes fabulous displays, off course it doesnt matter how much good football you play in 90 mins its down to these errors where the player is judged ,it would be unfair to lay the blame on the big fellas shoulders and i wont do that ,but many a supporter will, and that’s there right and choice to do so,im disappointed in another 2-2 draw when it could have been oh so much better, but id prefer to take the positives from tonight’s game…
2-2 against a very good team in europe again is progress in my book ,Ajax was a good result a few weeks back also 2-2 so tonight’s result against Fenerbahce is as good ,we were in the lead in both games and with some good fortune might have taken more from both games ,but these aren’t defeats and the group is actually very tight ,Molde sit top with 4 points Celtic and Ajax have 2 and Fenerbahce surprisingly have 1 ,so the next 2 games against the Norwegians will be crucial to the group standings come game 5 ,we travel to Norway in 3 weeks and if the last 2 results molde have got are an indicator the trip will be
From a performance standpoint Commons and Griffiths and broonie stood out for me, also Forrest who had a cracking game ,Kris Commons proved his worth to the team once again with a crackin goal and several nice attempts,Griffiths has become Mr reliable in front of goal notching up his 11th tonight ,Scott Brown was really up for it tonight and he was thumping into challenges and snarling at the opposition ,James Forrest looked back to his best tonight with some of his setup play, but on the downside Johansen and Ambrose gave the ball away on to many occasions and ultimately the club payed the price, the fans were superb tonight even when it was 2-2 they stayed with it …..
A fine crowd for a thursday night euro tie of around 44000 showed up in Glasgow and the game was more than decent ,you kinda wished for one of those dramatic late winners of old ,but sadly it wasnt to be and it finished 2-2 ,with the other game finishing Ajax 1-1 Molde ,it wasnt as damaging as it could have been ,I think now all 4 teams will expect to progress from the group and the next 4 matches for us will all be tough, with a bit of luck we can see our way through to the last 16,so I wouldn’t be too down about the result tonight ,I said in an earlier post I didn’t expect to win either game against Fenerbahce so having taken a draw tonight for me is a positive…
