Astra Provide Stern Test But Celtic Prevail 2-1

We started this game very nervously and throughout the first half on the pitch and on the sideline it was evident that we weren’t expecting Fc Astra to be as technical as they turned out to be,several times in the first half they put together fine passing moves that nearly produced a goal, aided by some sloppy passing by the hoops, had it not been for 2 great Craig Gordon saves in the first half we could have been looking at going in a goal down at the half.

Scepcovic had the majority of the chances for celtic first half and was unlucky several times not to get his first goal which would come second half, with Salzburg winning comfortably at half time in the other game Ronnie Deila knew 2 nd half Celtic would have to drastically improve there game, the fans were becoming restless as the half closed and like all off us were hoping for the hoops of old to come out after the break.

We missed Commons badly with his drive and eye for goal, and the on form Guidetti would have been a massive threat up front…as the second half started Celtic did look a bit sharper in there passing but the cutting edge and final ball still wasn’t coming with a lot breaking down in the final 3 Rd, set peice crosses produced a few scares in the Romanians box but it wasn’t till the introduction of Tonev for Mcgregor and Wakaso for Mulgrew that celtic started to carve there opponents open.

Scepcovic got his long-awaited goal from a header 1-0 and shortly after Johansen got number 2 with a crunching shot off a Astra defender high into the net, at 2-0 it should have been comfortable but yet the unease could be felt in the stadium even more so when the Romanians scored a dubious goal that appeared to hit an arm on 82 mins.

The linesman behind the goal seemed to miss the incident and Celtic were in for a nervous final 8 mins, Wakaso continued to be a danger for Celtic and maybe deserved to have started the match considering his 2 previous outings in the Europa League, a cleverly disguised shot late on from a tight angle nearly produced celtic 3 Rd goal and had Scepcovic been sharper he would have scored from the keepers pary.

Over the piece it wasn’t a comfortable night like most expected but 7 points from the first 3 games and top of the group makes for positive reading, next game is the return against Astra in Romania in a few weeks and the minnows will have taken great Confidence from their efforts in Glasgow, if Celtic can up their game and win over there, then the 10 point mark will be achieved before the 2 final games against Salzburg at home and Dinamo Zagreb away.

I believe we can make second phase of this competition and from there let’s see who we get, don’t forget also the winners of this competition get automatic entry to next seasons champions league…now there’s an incentive hh and God bless
